宋时吴中民俗，除夕小儿绕街呼叫卖痴卖呆。意谓将痴呆转移给别人。
其九《賣癡獃詞》：分歲罷，小兒繞街呼叫云：“賣汝癡！賣汝獃！”世傳吴人多獃，故兒輩諱之，欲賈其餘，益可笑。
其九《卖痴呆词》：分岁罢，小儿绕街呼叫云：“卖汝痴！卖汝呆！”世传吴人多呆，故儿辈讳之，欲贾其余，益可笑。

吴人自相呼爲獃子，又謂之蘇州獃。每歲除夕，群兒繞街呼叫云：“賣癡獃，千貫賣汝癡，萬貫賣汝獃，見賣儘多送，要賒隨我來。”
