泛指南方少数民族。
详细释义
古代传说为帝高辛氏所畜犬，其毛五彩。时犬戎侵暴，帝募能得犬戎吴将军头者，妻以少女。后盘瓠衔其头来，帝即以女配之。盘瓠负女入南山石室，子孙繁衍于南方山地。盘，一作“槃”。见《后汉书·南蛮传》、晋干宝《搜神记》卷十四。
