《后汉书·廉范传》载：廉范字叔度，为蜀郡太守时，“成都民物豐盛，邑宇逼側，舊制禁民夜作，以防火災，而更相隱蔽，燒者日屬。范乃毁削先令，但嚴使儲水而已。百姓爲便，乃歌之曰：‘廉叔度，來何暮？不禁火，民安作。平生無襦今五袴。’”后遂以“歌袴”为歌颂官吏德政之典。
