详细释义
官署名。掌管观察天象、考定历数等职。历代设置专官，称太史令。隋改太史监，唐初改为太史局，以后名称屡改，有秘书阁局、浑天监、浑仪监、太史监等名。至唐肃宗乾元元年改为司天台。除占候天象外，并预造来年历颁于天下。参阅《旧唐书·职官志二》。
犹天文台。又称观天台。观测天象的建筑。
太史令王恂等言：“建司天臺於大都，儀象圭表皆銅爲之，宜增銅表高至四十尺，則景長而真。”
